Body Type
Body Type First things first! Everyone has a unique body type and there’s a dress out there made for you! So maybe you are petite, have a slim figure or have curves, you just need to know how to accommodate all of your body parts. Here you will learn how to add to what you don’t have or diminish some areas of your body and look flattering and appeasing to the eye!Petite- you should wear dresses without much fabric. Avoid ball gowns and long flowy gowns. If you want to appear taller, try a short dress with a high heel. Don’t over-bear with accessories. Try an empire waist (gathering just underneath or near the bust) to elongate you figure.
Slender: You probably want to appear curvier than you really are. You can achieve this by wearing a bold color or pattern. Try a ruche (gathered material) waist or a dress that accentuates your bust line. Drawing attention to your bust and waistline adds curves!
*Tip- Add a pendant to the center of your gown between the bust line*
Small bust- be proud of your small bust because most dresses hang better on smaller bust. Try a bowed bodice gown or embellishments on the bust of the dress.
*Tip- the Nu’ Bra is always an option for adding enhancement to the bust*
Thick Waist- You can easily disguise this waist by lowering, raising, or completely eliminating the waistline all together. Try a v-neck with a raised waist. This will draw the eye above the waistline. Another option is a drop-waist, which hits around the hipbones. Another alternative is no waistline to disguise a thick waistline.
Plus size- also known as the apple shape body type. Maybe you have a full bust, waist, and back, those are just called curves! Try an empire waist gown to create a waist. Also try a v-neck this will make the body seem less round. If you like the way your legs look don’t be afraid to show some skin!
Fuller bust- the way to balance this figure is by trying different necklines. If you want to draw attention to the bust, a v-neck or a plunging neckline will do this. If you want to diminish your bust, try wide straps. To enhance the bust, try a square or scoop neckline.
Bottom heavy- also known as the pear shape body type. You want a dress that will accommodate your behind. Try an all over printed gown or a ball gown. Another option is n a-line (narrower at the top, flaring gently toward the bottom resembling the letter A) gown or a pleated bottom gown. This will diminish the look of the behind.
Hour glass- you’re the lucky one! Because you can’t really go wrong. With this figure you are well proportioned and nothing needs to be hidden or enhanced. Corset dresses and two- pieces look great on this figure. But try them all!
It’s all about accenting what you like most bout your body. You must feel most comfortable in whatever dress you choose to wear because you will be in it quite sometime. So remember to accommodate, accentuate, and accent your body type. Be most proud of your body and wear it well!
