Dress fabrics

Today, there are many types of fabric available to produce the prom dresses of today. Some are more costly than others to produce, but each can be used to produce stunning styles that everyone is sure to love. Here are a few of the most common fabrics:

  • Chiffon is the most common fabric used in prom dresses today. It is a delicate sheer fabric made from synthetic or silk fibers, woven of alternating high twist crepe yarns which puckers the material slightly. Chiffon is easy to dye allowing pretty much any color shade. Primarily used in evening wear, chiffon is known for having a slight rough feeling, being light weight, and, due to its delicate nature, can fray very easily.
  • Charmeuse can be recognized by its shiny reflective properties. Made from either silk, or a synthetic like polyester, charmeuse can hang or cling against the body, has a slippery feel, and does not hold shape very well.
