Revenge is Swift

November 11th, 2009

This past weekend, teenage superstar Taylor Swift hosted NBC’s Saturday Night Live. The jilted teenie bopper took the opportunity to get back at a few men in her life, taking stabs at Joe Jonas and Kanye West during her opening monologue. Taylor hasn’t said much about her relationship with either guy, except for the occasional tweet, but she discreetly and musically got some vindication…watch it!

Swift is being applauded for the way she has handled the Kanye situation, this is just icing on the cake. Taylor also gave a silent shout-out to her rumored new beau, Taylor Lautner from the Twilight movie series.

They have Chemistry!

October 8th, 2009

Funnyman Chris Rock and Tyra Banks lock lips (surgical masks, rather) on the set of Tyra’s show. The episode airs today, Oct. 8. The actor discussed his new documentary, Good Hair, which opens nationwide on Oct. 23 – and donned the protective gear while handling relaxor, the chemical used to straighten African-American hair.

Good Hair lawsuit

The Tyra Show isn’t the only publicity Chris Rock has received for his new film. Blogs and star magazines were a flutter after the comedian discovered he’d been slammed with a $5 million plagiarism lawsuit for his flick “Good Hair” on Monday.

Director Regina Kimbell filed the lawsuit against Rock for allegedly ripping off her 2005 documentary, “Nappy Roots.” Kimbell claims that she showed her film – which won the Pan African Film Festival’s best documentary award in 2007 – to Rock on the set of  “Everyone Hates Chris” that same year.

The ideas behind both films do seem similar. The synopsis for Kimbell’s film on mynappyrootsthemovement.com says the flick “takes an unparalleled look at how black hair is used as a prism through which to look at cultural, societal and political issues in the African-American community over time.”

Rock’s movie delves into the same topics, but takes a celebrity approach that Kimbell’s documentary does not cover.

David Letterman came clean yesterday on his late-night talk show.  He confessed that he has had sexual relationships with women staffers on the set of the Letterman Show. A veteran CBS News producer allegedly attempted to blackmail the comedian for $2 million, threatening to go public with information that Letterman had sex with members of his staffs, police reports say.

Robert J. Halderman, 51, a longtime Emmy-award winning producer for CBS News’ “48 Hours,” was arrested Thursday in a sting operation in which Letterman handed over a phony $2 million check.

This morning I did something I’ve never done in my life,” Letterman told his audience. “I had to go downtown and testify before a grand jury.”

Letterman revealed to the studio audience that he received a package three weeks ago containing a threat to reveal those indiscretions “if Letterman did not pay the individual a large sum of money”.

“The Voice”

September 15th, 2009

Oprah repeatedly refers to Whitney Houston as “the voice” during her interview with the superstar. Whitney covered topics like drug-abuse, her tumultuous relationship with Bobby Brown and her rise and fall as “the voice”.

Oprah cited an article describing the pain and “disgust” fans felt for the careless way Whitney had mistreated her voice, the article described Whitney’s voice as a “national treasure.”

“Wow,” Whitney replied, but she didn’t elaborate on “the voice” much further.

The second part of this interview airs today, on Oprah. The diva even performs, using none other than “the voice”.

Janet to pay tribute at VMA’s

September 9th, 2009

This Sunday, musical stars take to the red carpet once again to be criticized for what they wear and to be pounded with questions about their personal lives. No really, it’s MTV’s 2009 Video Music Awards. Fresh off the heels of the death of superstar and musical icon, Michael Jackson, you can bet the evening will be packed with homage to MJ.

His sister Janet Jackson will perform her own musical tribute to Michael to open the VMAs. While MTV has not provided details on what the King of Pop’s sister has in store for audiences, the appearance is intended to honor his storied career.

TMZ recently reported that 20 backup dancers (also the dancers set to tour with Michael at the time of his death) are rehearsing nearly 15 hours a day to prepare for the tribute. Performer Kryiss Grant, who was also an usher at Jackson’s funeral last week, told the Web site “There won’t be a dry eye in the house” when the number is through.

Jackson won a butt-load of VMAs for “Thriller” in 1984, but he is probably most noted on the awards show for the appearance he made with then-wife Lisa Marie Presley, where they practically made out onstage in 1994.

Wendy Williams: bargain shopper

September 1st, 2009

Wendy Williams takes the talk show world by storm. As the latest addition to the talk phenomenon, Williams’ approach is somewhat unorthodoxed. “How you doing?”

Covering hot topics, celebrity guests and musical performances, Wendy’s show seems mainstream. Think again. A self-proclaimed bargain shopper and real-life woman, Williams prides herself on the honesty her show offers and she has no quams with admitting its flaws.

She recently revealed that her sophisticated style (left) cost her less than $100…for the whole outfit! “How you doing?” Putting together pieces from Target, Forever 21, and even Payless, Wendy created a look that will get viewers through the recession in style.

A former radio personality and New York Times best-selling author, Wendy seems content in her new shoes, literally.

So America, “How you doing?”

MJ: The obvious becomes official

August 25th, 2009

The LA County coroner has finally finished his report on the death of Michael Jackson. To no one’s surprise, the singer died of lethal doses of the drug, propofol. The report finds that Jackson death is a homicide due to lethal injection of the drug.

The suspected injector? Dr. Conrad Murray, of course. Here’s the story, according to the good doctor:

The morning Jackson died, Dr. Murray gave Jackson valium at 1:30 AM. Murray said the valium didn’t work so he gave the singer an IV injection of lorazepam — an anti-anxiety drug. Murray told cops Jackson was still awake, so he then gave him midazolam — a sedative.

Murray gave Jackson more drugs. He says at 10:40 AM, he administered 25 mg of Propofol. Dr. Murray told cops Jackson repeatedly demanded the drug.

The reports filed by police and rescue workers, who responded to the scene the day Jackson died, do not show Propofol as one of the drugs Dr. Murray told them was administered. He told them about the Lorazepam [Ativan], but not about the other seditatives and definitely not about the propofol. If he is charged with the murder of Michael Jackson, this is the statement that will likely be his demise.

Paula returns to Idol after all?

August 11th, 2009

After she twitter-quit American Idol, announcing to the world that she would not be returning for the upcoming season, word is Paula Abdul has been bought back…with $10 million.

It is rumored that Paula has been offered $10 million to return, this after a flood of job offers from similar judge-based competition shows (So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With the Stars, etc). Paula originally bailed on A.I. because she felt she was disrespected by them. She only recieves $4 million per season, while Ryan Seacrest rakes in $15 million.

Paula used Twitter to tell the world she was pissed and wasn’t returning to the show. But now with $10 million flying around, we may just be in for more drunken and useless banter from her.

Out with Hailey, in with Kate?

August 4th, 2009

Kate number 2, that is. Jon Gosselin’s whirlwind romance with 22-year-old Hailey Glassman is officially over. The two were spotted romping around St. Tropez, and reportedly engaged, less than two weeks ago. Now, another Kate, Kate Major has emerged as postmarital relationship number 2.

The two first met at the beginning of the end for the reality show couple’s tumultuous marriage. Major was a reporter for Star and had flown to Pennsylvania for an interview with Jon. On the night following the interview, the pair went out for dinner.

“I would be lying if I said there wasn’t instant chemistry between us,” says Major of Gosselin.

Jon’s quick switheroo was news to the world, and even to Hailey Glassman. Glassman reportedly said the relationship between Jon and Kate Major was “news to her”. She also maintained that she loves Jon and Jon loves her. Ahh…What a tangled web we weave.

The entire interview with Kate Major airs on E! News this week.
