2012 Prom Dresses

Prom dresses! It is such an exciting time in a young girl's life and picking out that perfect prom dress is the beginning to making a wonderful memory that lasts a lifetime. Today's prom dresses are so fabulous and various that every girl can find her style. The Spring 2012 collections are so diverse from timeless princess ballgowns, chic sleek fitting dresses, high low with lots of ruffles, babydoll cocktails, printed prom dresses, and even dresses with feathers can be found in our 2012 prom dress gallery. Every color imaginable is available this year. Blue is the hue though! From a very vibrant electric blue to the palest of the blues is going to be seen. Another color we are seeing emerge is neutral shades. Champagne and blush pink are our favorites. Every prom girl has an imagine in her head of what she wants to look like on her prom night. Prom dresses come in many different silhouettes or styles, colors, prints and fabrics. Designers work tirelessly to put just the right fabric and color with a particular dress shape. Once the designers have finished their line for the season, we preview it and decide which gowns we want to offer our customers that come into our retail location. Every prom girl should start with her budget. All budgets can find the perfect dress if you start early enough. It is best to start in January! This assures that you can get the gown you want in your color and size in plenty of time before the prom. Girls often wait too late to start searching and have to spend more than they budgeted for because their choices are limited. If you run behind, you can also be hit with upgraded shipping charges and rush alterations fees. START EARLY!

Fabrics have reached new heights in the prom dress world! You will find taffeta, chiffon, satin, lace, tulle and even brocade. The fun doesn't stop there...these fabrics come in so many designs that it is mind boggling. Plaids, florals, abstracts and animal prints galore.

About half the prom dresses we sold last year were cocktails so manufacturers have given us even more selections of this style for 2012. Some of them are super short! We sell hot pants to go with them to match the color of the gown. These look like dancer or cheerleading shorts. You can dance the night away with confidence you are not giving everyone a peep show. A great thing about wearing a cocktail or high low gown is being able to show off your awesome prom shoes. Shoes have become such beautiful accessories that most prom girls care more about what their shoes look like than any other accessory that they pick out.

A new trend we are seeing this year is sheer beaded netting. Sometimes it is on the bodice, side, sleeve or even the whole dress! Jovani and Sherri Hill have both given us many styles this year featuring this awesome trend. This style is definitely not for the faint of heart or for the girl that dad has to approve what you wear before heading to the prom! Hehe

For many years, the prom dress selections for plus sizes have just not been up to par. They were dowdy and in terrible colors! That is not the case anymore we are ecstatic to say. Night Moves, Flirt, Partytime are just a few of the vendors that have started doing a fantastic job with their plus size prom dresses. They take the exact same dress from their regular size line and cut it in a plus size and it looks just as beautiful!!!

If bling is your thing, this is your prom year! Gowns have more unique embellishments than ever. Large stones and beads are the hottest thing. Feathers are in every line and so is the mirrored asymmetrical beads. Peacock feathers and patterns were hot last year and are not cooling off any for this season. Sequins in animal print patterns are beautiful and eye catching.

Would you like to have a long dress in your pictures for your prom and then dance in the comfort of a cocktail? You can do that this year! Quite a few a our vendors have added detachable skirts to their gowns to make this happen. It can be a beaded cocktail with a satin trained skirt or a simple sheath cocktail with a chiffon or tulle skirt. All of them are adorable!

Last but definitely not least on our new for Prom 2012 list...wait for it (drum roll)...SHORTS!!! Yep, you read that correctly! You may wear shorts to prom this year! Designer Claudine has brought you a beaded shorts romper with a chiffon overlay skirt. I can't wait to see this on our prom girls this season!
